Harold A. Marks, CPA, CVA

Senior Tax Partner

 

Harold is the Senior Tax Partner at PrangleyMarks, LLP.  He specializes in several practice areas including income tax, estate tax, succession planning, financial planning, litigation support services, retailing, and business valuations.  He has been credentialed as a Certified Valuation Analyst since 1997. 

 

He graduated from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, MI, where he received his Bachelor of Arts.  He also holds an additional accounting degree from Aquinas College.  Harold first joined the firm in 1969, having left his involvement in a closely held family corporation which owned and operated three women’s apparel stores.  He left the firm in 1971 to practice on his own and returned in 1974. 

 

Harold has been a member of the American Institute of CPAs since 1971, and has served as past president of the West Michigan Estate Planning Council.  He has also served as a member of the Family Business Committee of CPA Associates International, Inc.

 

Harold has been a member of the Michigan Association of CPAs since 1971 and in the past has participated in several committees of the MACPA, including the State and Local Taxation, Federal Taxation, and the Public Information and Service Committees.

 

In addition to these professional organizations, Harold has been very active in the Grand Rapids community.  He has served as Chairman of the Board for the Grand Rapids Area Chamber of Commerce and was President of the Small Business Council and Vice Chairman of the Small Business Division.  He has served as a member of several organizations such as The Right Place Program Executive Council, the Greater Grand Rapids Economic Area Team Policy Board, and the Board of Trustees for Blodgett Memorial Medical Center.  He also served as Treasurer of the Grand Rapids Museum Association.

 

Harold received the Small Business Administration Statewide Award for Accounting Advocate of the Year in 1984.  He was the AICPA Award recipient for the state of Michigan for Public Service in 1990.  Harold received the Distinguished Achievement award in 1998 from the Michigan Association of Certified Public Accountants.  He is only the thirteenth recipient of this award since 1968.
